Getting StartedInstall LinkSpot

Install LinkSpot

Install LinkSpot from the Shopify App Store, see what permissions are requested, what gets added to your theme, and what happens when you uninstall.

LinkSpot installs like any other Shopify app, through the Shopify App Store. After you approve the permissions, LinkSpot opens inside your Shopify admin and you can start adding elements right away.

Install from the Shopify App Store

  1. Open the LinkSpot listing in the Shopify App Store.

  2. Click Add app.

  3. Sign in to your Shopify admin if you are not already.

  4. Review the permissions Shopify shows you and click Install app to approve.

  5. LinkSpot opens inside your admin. You can find it again later under Apps > LinkSpot.

Permissions LinkSpot requests

When you install, Shopify shows you the list of permissions LinkSpot needs. Each one corresponds to something the app does:

  • View and manage your products. LinkSpot attaches metadata to your products so that pins, badges, buttons, and other elements appear on the right products. It also reads product info to build product sets.

  • View your themes. LinkSpot reads your active theme to detect which one is in use and to confirm that its app embed is enabled.

  • View and manage your publications. Used when LinkSpot creates or updates the helper collection that automatic badges (such as low-stock) rely on.

  • Upload files. Used when LinkSpot composes a collage image and uploads the result to your Shopify Files library, and when you upload media from the LinkSpot media picker.

  • Read product listings and inventory on the storefront. Used by the LinkSpot theme extension so it can render elements (such as a low-stock badge) for any shopper, without requiring them to be logged in.

If LinkSpot adds a new permission in a future release, Shopify will ask you to re-approve before the new functionality becomes active.

What gets added to your theme

When LinkSpot is installed, two things become available in your active theme:

  • An app embed. This is the piece that reads your saved elements and renders them on the storefront. Shopify adds the embed to your theme on install, but you have to enable it in the theme editor before elements show up. The LinkSpot dashboard prompts you to enable it if it is not already on.

  • App blocks. Five optional blocks become available in the theme editor for cases where you want to place an element at a specific spot in the template:

    • Pin block

    • Annotation block

    • Product Set block

    • Badge block

    • Collage block

Most elements render automatically once the app embed is enabled. app blocks are only needed when the default placement (on top of a product image, or next to the gallery) is not what you want. The most common use is placing a badge somewhere other than the gallery, or putting a collage at a specific spot on the product page.

When you uninstall

You can uninstall LinkSpot at any time from the Apps page in your Shopify admin. When you do:

  • Your subscription stops. Your current plan is canceled, but you keep access until the end of the current billing period in case you reinstall.

  • The app embed and theme blocks stop rendering. Elements no longer appear on the storefront. Shopify deactivates the embed for you.

  • Your saved elements are preserved. Pins, badges, product sets, and other configurations stay in LinkSpot's database so that if you reinstall, your previous setup is restored automatically.

  • Personal information is removed after 48 hours. Within 48 hours of uninstalling, LinkSpot removes any personal information about the store owner (such as name and email) from its database. This is part of Shopify's privacy compliance for apps.

  • Metafields are cleaned up by Shopify. Any product metafields LinkSpot wrote to your store are removed automatically by Shopify when the app is uninstalled.
