Setup guide

Walk through the setup guide on the LinkSpot dashboard to enable the app embed, detect your product gallery, and verify that elements render on your storefront.

The first time you open LinkSpot, the dashboard shows a setup guide with three steps. Completing them once means LinkSpot is fully wired into your active theme and ready to display elements on the storefront.

When the guide appears

The setup guide sits at the top of the LinkSpot dashboard until you complete it or dismiss it. If you dismiss it before finishing, you can re-open it from the dashboard at any time, or you can visit Settings > Compatibility > Theme integration.

Progress is saved per shop, so steps you have already completed stay green when the guide reappears.

The three steps must be completed in order. Each step unlocks the next.

Step 1: Enable the App Embed block

LinkSpot's storefront code is bundled in an app embed that Shopify adds to your active theme on install. The embed is off by default. This step turns it on.

What you do:

  1. Click the button that opens the theme editor with LinkSpot pre-selected.

  2. Toggle the LinkSpot App Embed on.

  3. Click Save in the theme editor.

  4. Return to the LinkSpot dashboard and click the Confirm activation button. The step marks itself complete once it detects the embed is on.

The guide configures your currently active theme. If you switch themes later, you may need to repeat the guide for the new theme.

If you want to setup another theme, please access Settings > Compatibility > Theme integration and choose the theme you want to setup and follow the steps.

Step 2: Setup compatibility with LinkSpot

LinkSpot needs to know where the product gallery sits on your product page so it can place elements in the right spot. This step runs an automated test that detects the gallery on your theme and saves the result.

What you do:

  1. Click the step to expand it once Step 1 is checked.

  2. Run the compatibility test from the panel. LinkSpot runs in the background to automatically detect the selectors.

  3. If LinkSpot finds the gallery automatically, the step is marked complete.

  4. If it does not, you will need to paste a CSS selector for your gallery into the field LinkSpot provides. If you're not sure how to do it, please reach out to use for help.

The selector is remembered for the current theme, so you do not have to repeat the test the next time you open the dashboard.

Step 3: Verify LinkSpot on your storefront

The last step opens your storefront in a popup window with sample LinkSpot data layered on top of a real product image, so you can confirm the integration works end-to-end before adding any of your own elements.

What you do:

  1. Click Preview storefront. A popup window opens with one of your products and sample LinkSpot elements on the main image.

  2. Confirm that the sample elements appear over the image. It should look like this https://d.pr/i/PaPRS7 .

  3. Return to the dashboard and click Working or Not working.

Clicking Working marks the step complete and finishes the guide. Clicking Not working keeps the guide open so you can revisit Step 1 or Step 2.

If your browser blocks the popup, allow popups for the LinkSpot domain and try the preview again.

Bringing the guide back

If you have dismissed the guide and want it back, the dashboard has a control to re-open it. Re-opening does not reset your progress, so you can pick up from the first incomplete step.

To bring back the setup guide, access Settings > General and enable "Show Storefront setup guide".
