Captions

Captions are small text overlays placed on a product image. They are simpler than pins and annotations: there is no indicator, no anchored marker, and no shopper interaction other than an optional tooltip on hover. Use them for short context, promotional messages, or evergreen call-outs like "Free shipping over $50".

You can find captions under Elements > Captions in the LinkSpot admin. The internal page title is Image Captions.

Create a caption

1. From the LinkSpot dashboard, click Elements in the top navigation.
2. Find the Captions card and click the add button.
3. Pick a product.
4. Pick an image.
5. The caption form opens.

Unlike pins and annotations, you do not click on the image to place the caption. Its position is set from the form.

Configuration options

Content

• Text. The main caption text. Up to 200 characters, supports markdown. Required.
• Extra text (optional). A supplemental note shown in a tooltip when the shopper hovers over the caption. Up to 200 characters.

Ticker

• Use ticker text (toggle). When enabled, the caption animates as a continuous scrolling ticker across the image. Available in Growth plan.

Style

• Color scheme (inherit, light, dark, custom). Defaults fall back to Settings > Captions.
• Caption size (extra small, small, default, large, larger).
• Caption width (only when the ticker is enabled; pick a percentage of the image width or use the default).

Placement

• Position (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right). The default position is set in Settings > Captions.

Global settings

LinkSpot has a Settings > Captions page that controls the defaults applied to every caption you create. Individual captions can override most of these from their own form; settings here are the fallbacks.

You can find them under Settings > Captions in the LinkSpot admin.

Available settings:

• Caption default color scheme. The color scheme applied to captions whose own color scheme is set to inherit.
• Caption default size. The default size used for captions (extra small, small, default, large, larger).
• Caption default position. The default placement on the image (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right).

Changes here apply to every caption in your shop on the next storefront render, unless a caption has an explicit override.

Storefront behavior

Captions appear at the chosen position on the chosen image. With ticker mode enabled, the text scrolls continuously (the scroll direction is configured globally in Settings > Captions).

Plan limits

• Products with captions.
• Captions per image (currently 1 across all plans).
• Ticker is available in Growth plan.
