Getting Started with LinkSpot
Install LinkSpot, enable the app embed, run the compatibility test, and create your first interactive element on a product image.
Prerequisites
You need:
- A Shopify store with an active plan
- A published theme (or a trial/development theme)
- At least one product with images in your catalog
Step 1: Install LinkSpot
Find LinkSpot
Go to the Shopify App Store and search for "LinkSpot", or install it directly from the app listing.
Approve Permissions
LinkSpot requires access to read your products and themes, and write product metafields. Approve the permissions when prompted during installation.
Open the App
After installation, open LinkSpot from your Shopify admin sidebar under Apps > LinkSpot.
Step 2: Enable the App Embed Block
The app embed block allows LinkSpot to load on your storefront. Without it, no elements will appear on your product pages.
Open Theme Editor
From the LinkSpot dashboard, click Enable app embed. This opens your Shopify theme editor with the LinkSpot app embed block selected.
Save the Theme
In the theme editor, make sure the LinkSpot app embed block is toggled on, then click Save.
Confirm Activation
Return to LinkSpot and click Confirm activation. The dashboard should now show the app embed as "Enabled".
App embed blocks are deactivated by default after installation. You must manually enable it in the theme editor for LinkSpot to work.
Step 3: Run the Compatibility Test
The compatibility test detects your theme's product image gallery structure so LinkSpot can place elements on the correct images.
Start the Test
In the LinkSpot dashboard, find the compatibility section and click Setup compatibility. The test opens your storefront in a new window and analyzes the product gallery.
Wait for Results
The test runs automatically and takes a few seconds. Do not close the window until it completes.
Review Results
If your theme is compatible, you'll see a "Compatible" badge and you're ready to continue.
If the test reports your theme as incompatible, you have two options:
- Set a manual CSS selector for the product gallery items
- Contact support for help with your specific theme
Step 4: Create Your First Element
With the app embed enabled and compatibility confirmed, create your first interactive element.
- Go to Pins in the sidebar
- Select a product from your catalog
- Click on the product image where you want to place the pin
- Link the pin to another product
- Choose a pin style and save
- Go to Product Sets in the sidebar
- Click Create product set
- Choose a layout: Button & Popup, Card Carousel, or Links List
- Select which products to target (all, specific collections, or individual products)
- Add the products you want to display in the set
- Save the product set
- Go to Annotations in the sidebar
- Select a product from your catalog
- Click on the product image where you want to place the annotation
- Enter your annotation text
- Choose a color scheme and save
- Go to Captions in the sidebar
- Select a product from your catalog
