Collages

Build bento-grid image compositions and insert them into a product gallery, right after an image you pick.

Collages are bento-style grid compositions you add to a product gallery. Unlike other LinkSpot elements that overlay on top of an existing image, a collage is added as a new media slot in the gallery, positioned right after an image you pick. You compose the collage from up to five products or custom images. Each cell can have a caption, and cells sourced from products can carry pins or product set overlays.

You can find collages under Elements > Collages in the LinkSpot admin.

Create a collage

  1. From the LinkSpot dashboard, click Elements in the top navigation.

  2. Find the Collages card and click the add button.

  3. The collage form opens.

The form has three tabs:

  • Placement — which product the collage is added to, and which image it appears right after.

  • Content — what fills the collage cells (products or custom images).

  • Style — grid layout and visual options.

Placement: select product and position

Collages do not use the standard "all products / specific products" targeting modes. Instead, you pick exactly one product and one image on that product as the position marker.

What you do:

  1. In the Placement tab, pick the product.
  2. From the gallery thumbnails, pick the image the collage should appear right after.
  3. By default, the collage is added after the last image so it appears at the end of the gallery. You can change this to any image position.

The image you pick is not deleted, replaced, or hidden. It stays in the gallery, and the collage is added as a new slot right after it. See the Targeting and image position article for the full details.

Content options

In the Content tab, pick the source for the cells:

  • Products. Pick up to five products. Each product's first image becomes a cell.
  • Images. Pick up to five custom images from your media library. You can also enable the option to use the target product image as the first cell, with up to four custom images filling cells 2 to 5.

For each cell you can configure:

  • Caption text. A short label rendered on the cell.

  • Caption placement (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right).

Cells sourced from products can also have pins or product set overlays added on top.

Style options

The Style tab controls the grid:

  • The grid layout (number of columns and rows; bento-style configurations are supported).

  • Spacing between cells.

  • Other visual settings (border radius, background, etc.).

Global settings

LinkSpot has a Settings > Collages page that controls the defaults applied to every collage you create. Individual collages can override these from their own form where the field exists.

You can find them under Settings > Collages in the LinkSpot admin.

Available settings:

  • Images corner radius. The default border radius applied to the cells inside a collage.
  • Background color. The default background color shown between cells.
  • Caption color scheme. The default color scheme for captions rendered on collage cells.

Changes here apply to every collage in your shop on the next storefront render, unless a collage has an explicit override.

Storefront behavior

When you save a collage, LinkSpot composes the grid into a single image and uploads it to your Shopify Files library. That composed image becomes a real media item on the product, positioned right after the target image you picked. The storefront serves it as a normal image, so loading the collage is no different from loading any other product image. The composed image is cached on the collage record and regenerated when you change the content or layout.

Plan limits

  • Collages total count.

  • Per-cell limits and the maximum number of cells depend on your plan.
