Targeting products and collections

Decide which products a product set appears on using the three targeting modes (all products, specific products, specific product image) and optional collection or tag filters.

Targeting controls which products a product set is shown next to. The targeting modes and UI for product sets are the same as for other shop-wide elements (badges, buttons, collages). You configure targeting from the Placement tab of the product set form.

The three targeting modes

Specific products

The product set appears only on a hand-picked list of products.

What you do:

  1. Choose Specific products in the Target products card.
  2. Use the product picker to browse or search your catalog and select the products.
  3. Drag products in the list to reorder them.

Specific product image

The product set appears only on one exact image of one product.

What you do:

  1. Choose Specific product image.
  2. Pick the product.
  3. Pick the image from the gallery thumbnails.

All products

The product set appears on every product in your catalog by default, with optional filters to narrow the scope.

What you do:

  1. Choose All products.
  2. (Optional) Add filters:
    • Products in specific collections.
    • Products with tags.
    • Products without tags.

The collection and tag filters are plan-gated under embedders_advanced_targeting. On lower plans, All products is available but the filters are disabled with an upgrade banner.

Image placement

After deciding which products to target, you choose which gallery image the product set sits next to:

  • Specific image positions — one or more positions in the gallery (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, penultimate, last).
  • All images — every image in the gallery.
  • Hide — do not show in the gallery. Useful when placing the set elsewhere with a Product Set app block.
  • By alt text — show on images whose alt text matches a substring.

Tips

  • Use All products with a "related" or "complementary" product source for a catalog-wide cross-sell.
  • Use Specific products when only certain hero products should show a curated set.
  • Use Display priority (in the Advanced tab) when more than one product set targets the same product.
